So far, so good

I wonder if I will be able to keep with this, I have the hardest time not buying something, if I really like it!

I guess we shall see.

This is a bracelet I made, It is crocheted embroidery thread. I really like the big brass button, it came from a tin full of buttons my Dad bought at an auction.
Sometimes you can find some really neat stuff at auctions. I got a really cute headboard for my bed one time, for just $5! I had to down size though from a queen to a twin (need more room in my room!) and the headboard was just to big for the smaller bed.

What am I doing!?

A couple of my sisters (Susan, Abi) and I were out shopping, and I was commenting on the fact that I bought a necklace (just like the one we were looking at) a few days earlier (for a lot cheaper) at a thrift store. And this continued to stew in my mind as we shopped, "There are a lot of funky things at thrift stores, often the clothing doesn't fit quite right.....but I could take them apart and make new things" I like originality and uniqueness, "what if I only bought things from thrift stores?"

The challenge: Starting 01/01/07, for the next 365, 24 hour segments (12 months), I'm not going to buy any new items of clothing.

The rules: I can buy materials (fabric, buttons, yarn, etc.) and anything secondhand.

It's Used Couture, my secondhand journey!

The Begining:

I've been interested in "fashion" and clothing construction as far back as I can remember. When I was real little it was just wanting to wear my swim suit in the middle of the winter, or the feeling I got when Mom had made me a dress (all the possibilities started to run through my head) or when I noticed it was "in" to roll up the edges of your cut off jeans, and rolled mine up a lot higher then I needed to, I remember giving my Mom the hardest time when she would try and get me into something I didn't like. Over the last 19 years, since I have been out of my Mother's womb (or maybe even from before!), and definitely in the last 2-3 years my sense of "style" has evolved tremendously, and through much trial and error (probably still more to come), I feel as I've finely made some headway, it's kinda like I've gotten the foundation down, and now I can start building. I'm not limited by what they sell in the stores, or what patterns you can buy, the sky is the limit now.
